Aikido, like many martial
arts, has developed to meet the
challenges of modern society.
The methods taught cover a
wide range of situations from single,
multiple, and even armed attacks.
Students of Aikido learn
self defence against various weapons
including the Bokken (wooden sword) and
the Jo (wooden staff). Self
defence against knife attacks are taught
as a top priority.
Aikido has enjoyed
widespread publicity through the films
of Steven Seagal, himself a 7th Dan of
Aikido.
Aikido is widely regarded
as one of the most effective and
realistic martial arts still practised
today, and one of the very few that is
practised by Police forces throughout
the world.
