Welcome to the web site of Tempest Aikido
Club - the premier Aikido Club in the North
East of England.
Aikido is a
Japanese Martial Art for self defence that
can trace its roots back to the Samurai of
the 12th Century.
more of the history of Aikido.
Aikido is
an art which does not seek to meet violence
with violence but still remains true to its
Martial Arts history. Find out more
about the benefits of Aikido
here.
Although tracing its history back to the
12th Century, Aikido has kept pace with the
modern world, click
here to find out more.
Aikido is
based on many combinations of turning and
spinning movements which seek to redirect
the force of an attack down to the ground or
back to the attacker. You can see some
moves illustrated in our
Photo Galleries.
The main forms of Aikido techniques are
joint immobilisations and throws using the
force of the attacker.
